What do I think?

The Samsung HM70 EVO Vet ultrasound machine, tested on my dog Pippi, left me impressed with its image quality and overall performance. This portable ultrasound device prove to be a valuable addition to any small animal veterinary practice.

One of the standout features of the HM70 EVO Vet is its great image quality. I found the linear probe to be particularly impressive, and it provided a clear view of Pippi's left adrenal gland and the local vasculature. This level of detail is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. The microconvex probe, on the other hand, produced an excellent cardiac image while struggled a little with deep images of the liverThe colour Doppler performance was not on par with phased array probes, it still delivered reasonable results when scanning the heart.

The machine is capable of to running continuous wave Doppler, although during my testing, I only had access to pulsed wave Doppler. I was pleased with the quality of the images obtained, especially when assessing the flow through Pippi's pulmonary artery. This feature adds versatility to the machine, making it suitable for a wide range of diagnostic applications.

Tissue harmonics is another feature that deserves recognition, as it effectively improved image quality during my tests. This enhancement ensures that the ultrasound images are sharp and clear, facilitating accurate diagnoses.

Portability is a significant advantage of the HM70 EVO Vet. Weighing in at under 6kg, it is easy to transport, allowing veterinarians to take it to various locations within the clinic or even use it in the field when necessary. Despite its lightweight design, the machine feels robust and durable, thanks to its strong cover.

While most of the machine's controls and buttons felt solid and intuitive to use, I did find the TGC (Time Gain Compensation) sliders to be slightly flimsy in comparison. However, this minor concern did not significantly impact my overall experience with the device. The controls were mostly intuitive to find, however the frequency was initially hidden behind the harmonics function and uses a penetration, general, and resolution format, which, while functional, is slightly less intuitive than directly showing the frequency in MHz. This could be a small learning curve for users, but with practice, it becomes more familiar.

In conclusion, the Samsung HM70 EVO Vet ultrasound machine is a reliable and versatile tool for small animal veterinary practices. Its exceptional image quality, portability, and robust construction make it a valuable asset for diagnosing and monitoring pets' health. While there are some minor ergonomic improvements that could be made, they do not detract significantly from the overall performance and functionality of the device. If you are in the market for a capable and portable veterinary ultrasound machine, the HM70 EVO Vet is certainly worth considering, and based on my experience, it would be a great addition to any veterinary practice.

My scores:

My 5-point scoring system ranges from 1 (the lowest) to 5 (the highest). A score of 1 implies significant issues, 2 signals below-average performance, 3 is satisfactory, 4 reflects above-average performance, and 5 represents exceptional quality or achievement.  After assessing each category, the total score is converted into a percentage for the overall performance review.
