What do I think?

I recently had the opportunity to trial the Esaote MyLab FOX ultrasound machine on my dog, Pippi, and I was really impressed by its performance, especially given its price point in the ÂŁ15-20K range. For a machine in this bracket, it offers exceptional value, delivering image quality comparable to higher-end systems.

Image Quality

One of the standout features for me was the clarity of the images, particularly when using the microconvex probe. This probe performed remarkably well for both abdominal scans and basic cardiac views. The level of detail it provided was exceptional, and I found it easy to visualize the organs and structures I was targeting. For general practitioners or specialists working with small animals, this probe is a game-changer, as it balances ease of use with high-quality imaging.

User Interface and Controls

The layout of the knobs and controls is another major plus. It’s simple, intuitive, and easy to navigate, which is especially important when you’re in the middle of a busy clinic day. There are handy reminders of button functions displayed on the screen, which I found helpful. However, I should mention that these reminders aren't physically on the buttons themselves, which may be a minor drawback if you’re used to having them there. That said, the interface is user-friendly enough that you get accustomed to it quickly.

For those who prefer customisation options, the Esaote MyLab FOX offers two great choices: you can opt for a pop-out keyboard if you prefer traditional buttons or go for the touchscreen option, which replaces knobs altogether. This flexibility means the machine can be tailored to suit different preferences—perfect if you love the speed and simplicity of a touchscreen or if you’d rather stick to physical controls.

Ergonomics

In terms of comfort and usability, the machine also excels. It’s designed to be highly adjustable, with an easy-to-move screen and a height-adjustable base. Whether you’re scanning seated or standing, the flexibility of the screen position and height adjustment makes it very ergonomic and adaptable to different working environments.

Overall Value

Priced between £15-20K with one probe, this machine offers outstanding value for the quality of imaging you get. It’s versatile, easy to use, and has options that cater to different scanning styles. For any veterinary practice looking to upgrade or expand their ultrasound capabilities, the Esaote MyLab FOX is definitely a machine worth considering.

In summary, the Esaote MyLab FOX provides excellent image quality, especially with the microconvex probe, an intuitive and adaptable user interface, and ergonomic flexibility—all at a price that makes it a great investment for veterinary practices.
