Confident Scanning Starts Here!
Learn ultrasound the way it should be taught—step by step, without needing extra hours in your busy day.
Â
Designed for first-opinion vets who want to feel more confident every time they pick up the probe.
Â

Let me guess… You know ultrasound could be a total game-changer in your practice, but every time you pick up the probe, you feel like you’re just guessing.
Â
Maybe you avoid it altogether, passing the scan to a colleague who "knows what they're doing." Or you try, but you’re left second-guessing your findings. Sound familiar?
Â
So many first-opinion vets tell me the same thing:
Â
- They want to use ultrasound confidently, but don’t know where to start.
- They want a clear, structured approach instead of scanning aimlessly.
- They want guidance that works on their own machine—not just fancy, high-end models.Â
Â
If this resonates, you’re exactly who I created this course for...

Meet Your Instructor: Camilla Edwards
I graduated from KVL, Copenhagen in 2006 and have worked as a first opinion veterinary surgeon all over East Anglia in the UK, spending a significant portion of my career in emergency and critical care. Over the years, ultrasound became an essential tool in my work, but like many vets, I had to figure things out through trial and error.
The benefit of working night shifts? I could practise my scanning skills on my old faithful Labrador, Frida, during those rare quiet moments (R.I.P. Frida—she was the bestest dog).
In 2018, I earned my CertAVP from the RVC and spent three months with the ultrasound team at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, learning from them and seeing dozens of fascinating cases. That same year, I took the plunge and started my own business as a peripatetic ultrasonographer, assisting first-opinion vets with all their ultrasound needs.
But I quickly saw a pattern—many vets wanted to build their own ultrasound confidence but lacked structured, practical training that fit into a busy practice. That’s why I started FOVU (First Opinion Veterinary Ultrasound)—to make ultrasound simple, approachable, affordable and something any vet can feel confident using in daily practice.
Â

"There is no other ultrasound resource for the general practitioner that is as unique and valuable to fill the need for veterinarians who are serious about becoming competent sonographers, in my opinion. Camilla Edwards is an outstanding instructor who is passionate, knowledgeable, and just plain fun to work with to learn this skill that any dedicated professional can accomplish."

Why Ultrasound Feels So Hard
The biggest struggles first-opinion vets face with ultrasound:
-
You hesitate to pick up the probe—worried you’ll get lost, so you pass scans to a colleague or take an x-ray instead.
-
Your scanning feels like guesswork—no repeatable method, just hoping you’re not missing something critical.
-
You’re unsure what’s normal—struggling to distinguish between normal variations and actual pathology.
-
Your images aren’t clear enough—and you’re not sure which settings on your machine to adjust to fix them.
-
You don’t get enough hands-on practise—and you worry you’ll forget what you’ve learned.

How We Fix It
By the end of this course you'll be able to:
- Pick up the ultrasound probe with confidence—instead of hesitation.
- Follow a systematic approach that ensures you don’t miss key structures.
- Recognise when findings are normal and when they need further investigation.
- Optimise your machine settings for clearer images every time.
- Keep more cases in-house—instead of automatically referring them.
- Maintain and build on your skills—with structured practice techniques.
- Be on the path to becoming your practice’s go-to ultrasound vet.
What will the course cover?

MODULE 1
Getting the Most from Your Machine
- Never struggle with settings again! Learn exactly how to set up your machine for clear, diagnostic images. We give guidance on your specific machine and will troubleshoot any problems finding buttons with you.Â
- Know which probe to use for different scenarios and how to position your patient for better visualisation.
- Troubleshoot blurry images—so you’re not left wondering what went wrong.

MODULE 2
Scanning the Emergency Abdomen
- Confidently perform abdominal emergency scans—so you can spot life-threatening issues fast.
- Find free fluid quickly and recognise when ultrasound is the right tool (and when it’s not)
- Use a systematic approach under pressure—so you never second-guess your findings.

MODULE 3
Scanning Abdominal Organs
- Know exactly what normal organs look like—including the liver and gallbladder, spleen, and the GI tract.
- Spot common pathologies with confidence—so you know what’s significant and what’s not.
- See real case examples—so you can recognise what you’ll actually encounter in practice.

MODULEÂ 4
Urinary & Reproductive Systems
- Master the kidneys, bladder, and reproductive tract - learn what normal looks like and what parts of the organ you need to pay attention to.
- Learn how to distinguish normal vs. abnormal findings - so you don’t second-guess yourself or feel like you might have missed something a colleague would have seen.
- Confidently decide when ultrasound adds diagnostic value - with cases from first opinion practice, we focus on common cases where ultrasound can make the biggest difference.
